The Trance Tarot deck was conceived, as appropriate and magical, in a dream.
I had slept uneasily one night and awoke several times, once from designing an adventure game in my sleep which then became real.
As I awoke that morning, I had been dream-thinking about the use of the phrase “the collective” on TickTock and Instagram.
I had been dream-contemplating that the collective was not real, as it could not refer to everyone, so must be referring to the collective space in which individuals gathered online, which in itself was empty.
As I awoke I heard myself saying in dream, “a space which is empty until there is someone which is something then and not nothing, so someone is something, no-one is nothing…”
I then immediately saw, at the point of fully awakening, a blank tarot-sized card with those words typed out on it in black typewriter style font on a white background.
Now I was fully awake, I saw that the text referred to the FOOL Tarot card, and it was part of an entire text-based tarot deck.
Within a few moments I had the name “Trance Tarot” which later turned out to be available as a domain and a viable name for a deck.
